Model Y Series: Episode 9 – Aeroshields MY-M3, Hood Alignment, Engine Bay Rail Reinforcements

Engine Bay Rail Reinforcements (SORB)

Episode 9 – Aeroshields MY-M3, Hood Alignment, Engine Bay Rail Reinforcements

Welcome back to episode nine of Munro’s Tesla Model Y Performance teardown, where Munro & Associates CEO Sandy Munro compares the aeroshields between the Model Y and Model 3, offers commentary on hood alignment and more detail on engine bay rail reinforcements catered toward Small Offset Rigid Barrier (SORB) impact testing.

Sandy starts this segment with a comparison of the aeroshields of the Tesla Model Y and the Model 3. He notes that they’re quite similar, with a few key differences that have enable the Model Y aeroshield to be stronger.

He then moves onto investigate the cause of the hood misalignment. He notes a few interesting findings: it looks as though the hinges have been moved; the bow in the hood seems to result from the improper latch closure; and the inside latch of the frunk has also been adjusted and is not inline anymore.

He closes the segment by looking at the cross car beams, which make him “pretty happy” due to their function in Small Offset Rigid Barrier (SORB) impact testing.
