F150 is Learning From RAM

Both the Financial Post and Automotive News picked up on Munro and Associates series comparing the Cybertruck with conventional trucks in the market specifically honing in on changes being made to the F150 borrowing from interior upgrades initiated in the RAM series.

Quoting Sandy from the series, “If they add the same stuff as what RAM did and if they can add more stuff like Tesla’s doing, there’ll be a gigantic gap between Ford, and RAM and Chevy.”

As Rhett Ricart, owner of Ricart Ford in Columbus, Ohio puts it, “RAM taught everybody a little bit of a lesson,” referring to the interior upgrades including the lay-flat passenger seats, the screen size increase of your navigation radio controls, as well as connectivity enhancements.

Cybertruck E5 – Ride & Drive, Series Wrap-Up

Cybertruck E5 - Ride & Drive, Series Wrap-Up

Cybertruck E5 – Ride & Drive, Series Wrap-Up

“Hey, boys and girls we’re back again!”  In this week’s installment of the Cybertruck vs conventional truck series, we examine the ride and drive aspects of these vehicles. Sandy takes for a spin, in alphabetical order, Chevy, F150, and Ram.

Sandy talks about some interesting drive characteristics that only a truck enthusiast who is driven the different competitor trucks would have experienced in the past.

He then moves on to breaking down the price per vehicle versus horsepower and range.  Spoiler alert! The Ford F150 wins for most torque, however, when compared with what is being proposed as the specs for the Cybertruck, nothing would come close to the proposed 800 HP and 1000 lbs of torque that the Tri-motor AWD would deliver.

But there are a few more twists and if you want to know them, you have to watch the video here!

This brings us to the conclusion of our videos comparing these vehicles. We hope you enjoyed the series and also if Tesla is watching, feel free to send us a Cybertruck if you want to here our unbiased opinions.

Also, if you are reading this, we would like to remind everyone that it is by selling reports or consulting that we really make a living.  If you want to truly support not only the creation of these videos but also to keep Munro afloat during these hard times, we just want to point out that the Model Y report is almost ready for prime time, and you can already purchase the Octovalve and Thermal System report, the Inverter report, a comparison of 10 of the leading EV motors and the Model 3.

Cybertruck E4 – Interior

Cybertruck E4 - Interior

Cybertruck E4 – Interior

Welcome back to episode 4 on the Cybertruck vs. conventional trucks series.  In todays episode, Sandy compares the interiors of the Cybertruck to what truck owners currently experience or expect on truck that are in the market currently.

Sandy points out that there are pluses and minuses with the Cybertruck’s proposed interiors.  He discusses the minimalist design, which an old time trucker, would be used to (truck in the old days had few interior features), but is nothing like the design an old-timer would expect or be used to.  He points out changes that have occurred in the expectation of truckers and how that might affect Tesla.

One interesting point that Sandy is not a fan of is the proposed steering wheel, which would terrible for off-roading and, based on the pictures provided, not street legal.

There is in depth discussion of the Instrument Panel including infotainment system and assumptions made from tearing down the model Y.  Sandy goes on to talk about door panels, seats, center consoles, HVAC, safety/restraints, and electronics.

Cybertruck E3 – Driveline and Off-Roading

Cybertruck E3 – Driveline & Off-Roading

In today’s new episode of the Cybertruck comparison with the F150, Silverado, and RAM, Sandy will be discussing driveline and off-roading capabilities.  Our 3 conventional trucks are all 4×4 capable and fairly similar in many respects owing to their long histories in the market and established paradigms.

The Cybertruck, however, is a completely different animal, including a feature that allows it to almost roll over and then restabilize and roll back which is also found in the Tesla Model Y.

Sandy also gives some great background stories of him learning to truly off-road with a Land Rover Discovery and training at the Land Rover facility in Solihull, UK.

Cybertruck Comparison Ep2 – Suspension

Cybertruck E2 - Suspension

Cybertruck Comparison Ep2 – Suspension

In this week’s episode, Sandy Munro compares the Cybertruck with conventional trucks on the market in relation to front and rear suspension, air ride, and active damping to make assumptions about utility, comfort, and performance.

What suspension geometry is Cybertruck going to use and why?  What are some unique possibilities for dynamic ride height adjustment that air suspension opens up for the Cybertruck?  How will active damping affect the overall feel of the Cybertruck and the absence of a solid rear axle in favor of independent rear suspension and air springs?  All of these questions are covered in this weeks episode which can be watched here:

Just a reminder, Munro has reports on these types of truck comparisons and much more.  If you are interested in finding out more about the Tesla Model 3 or Y or how the top 10 EV Motors on the market compare with each other, then you should click on the above or contact us at sales@leandesign.com.

Cybertruck Comparison Ep1 – Body Structure

Cybertruck Comparison Ep1 - Body Structure

Cybertruck Comparison Ep1 – Body Structure

Munro kicks off their next video series today which will compare the 3 leading pickup trucks currently in the market (F150, Silverado, and RAM) with the Tesla Cybertruck.

Episode 1 focuses on the exterior body of these vehicles and explains reasons why Tesla decided to take this angular approach in designing the Cybertruck.  Although polarizing to some, the choice of making the body 30X stainless necessitates this sort of look.

“Stainless Steel is not your best friend when it comes to forming techniques,” says Sandy Munro, which is why the Cybertruck has to be formed using a press brake rather than stamping dies. “These lines (on conventional trucks) are impossible with anything that is hard like a stainless steel,” Sandy re-iterates.

Munro Series Compares Cybertruck to Leading Pickups

Cybertruck vs the F150 Dodge Ram and Silverado

Munro Series Compares Cybertruck to Leading Pickups

Starting tomorrow, Munro will begin releasing its new video series comparing the leading pickup trucks to the Tesla Cybertruck.  Specifically, Sandy will dive into the 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500, 2020 Ford F150, and the 2020 Dodge Ram 1500.  In the short promo video that Munro did on this series (which you can watch here) Sandy tells the audience that although the three trucks pictured are not going to be torn down, Sandy is going to use lots of data that Munro has found in recent teardowns of these vehicles in order to give the audience a reasonably accurate look at where the competition stands against the proposed specs of the Tesla Cybertruck.

“We are going to be looking at, what did they do, how did they do it, and why did they do it that way?”, says Sandy when talking about the series, “It’s important to know that the truck market is on a completely different playing field than the rest of the automotive industry,”  Because of this, Sandy expects that our viewers will be very interested in finding out, not only more about the truck industry in general, but how difficult it will be for Tesla to wrangle away the top seat with it’s edgy but polarizing new competitor.

Tune in tomorrow to watch the first episode in the series and dig into what makes these trucks tick.

Also, remember that we have several exciting reports that are for sale right now including the 10 EV Motor Analysis covering the 10 leading EV motors on the market, the Tesla Model 3, and the soon to be released Tesla Model Y Report.
