Model Y Series: Episode 29: Body-in-White

Model Y E29: Down to the Naked Body-in-White (BIW) - Oil Canning, Roof Racks, More Insulation

Episode 29: Body-in-White

Welcome back to episode 29 of Munro’s Tesla Model Y Performance teardown, where Munro & Associates CEO Sandy Munro takes a look at the vehicle’s body-in-white (BIW).

In this episode, you will see that all of the parts have now been removed from the Model Y down to the BIW, allowing Sandy to take a look at all of the metallic parts of the vehicle that are now exposed. While you’ll notice the car is red, BIW is an industry-standard term for a vehicle in this state.

Sandy walks us through some noteworthy observations throughout the vehicle, including the: hinge pillar fastening; paint; rough welds; expanding insulation; oil canning in the floor pan; and provisions for the roof rack.

You can check out the full details here.
