Costing Engineer for Design Profit Software

Senior Operations Research Analyst


Master’s degree in Statistics, and 1 year of experience as Research Analyst, Statistician, or related.

  • Assist in team management and leadership responsibility by supervising other engineers in costing methodologies, determining program and personnel requirements, and evaluating team member performance to requirements.
  • Lead the costing team maintain the old cost models and develop new cost functions in Design Profit® software.
  • Conduct software and cost models’ demonstration and training for new business development purposes.
  • Develop cost databases maintenance plans that identify resource and budgetary needs. Guide cost engineers maintain the databases.
  • Host the regular internal software and costing training for new employees.
  • Create final project reports and conduct the report out meeting to customers.
  • Evaluate and give insights on the statistical methods and procedures used to obtain data to ensure validity, applicability, efficiency, and accuracy.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings and requirements, evaluate physical components, and use Design Profit® software to analyze for product designs, complexity, manufacturing operations, assembly (DFA/DFM), and cost analysis.
  • Benchmarking and reverse engineering of product designs, material identification, and manufacturing processes.
  • Provide customer feedback, support, updates, and coordination on project meetings and potential optimization ideas.

Lead Cost Engineer

Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering or related and 12 months of experience as Cost Engineer or related.

  • Work as a technical cost specialist for multiple projects on different areas of manufacturing and commodities.
  • Lead projects by supervising other engineers in costing methodologies, determining program requirements, personnel requirements, and training team members.
  • Collaborate with the customer’s team and deliver cost reports based on requirements.
  • Provide customer feedback, support, updates, and coordination on meetings and potential optimization ideas.
  • Recommend design modifications to improve quality and reduce product cost and weight; Assist in clients’ supply chain analysis and negotiation with suppliers.
  • Define new concept design directions, set Bill of Material cost targets for the client’s future programs.
  • Collaborate with studio and engineering teams as a consultant to initiate a design to target attitude during the product development phase based on the LeanDesign® principles.
  • Interface with design and manufacturing teams in the client’s organization to report make/buy analysis.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings and requirements, evaluate physical components, and use Design Profit® software to analyze product designs, complexity, manufacturability, assembly (DFA/DFM), quality, profitability, and cost analysis.
  • Disassemble and create assembly and manufacturing process Cost Map model for automotive powertrain, interior, body structures, electrical systems, medical devices, industrial devices, consumer products etc.
  • Estimate ground up piece cost for interior plastics, electronic modules, harnesses, commodity items etc.
  • Create standard work procedures and manuals for new team members and improve efficiency for cost benchmarking process.
  • Research technologies, emerging fields, and manufacturing processes to apply on product analyses and develop business cases for customers’ products.
